Classic Jet Tip

31QlDDOZbyL. SL500

The Classic Jet Tip is designed for general use, cleaning deep between the teeth and below the gum line.

Jet Tips come standard in the box of every Waterpik model for a good reason, they are the most commonly used type of flosser tip. If you don’t have any dental work or hard to clean areas of your mouth then this will be your go to flosser tip.

The design is simple. Water shoots up the tube and out the nozzle delivering a pressurized stream of water at wherever you point the head. Similar to a garden hose but small enough to fit in your mouth.

In our testing we found that the Classic Jet Tip effectively removed plaque from below the gumline and between teeth.

How to use your Jet Tip

Sit the Jet Tip at your gum line (not touching). Aim the tip straight on so that it forms a 90 degree angle with your teeth.

Turn the water flosser on and trace along your along your gum line. Pause briefly when you come to the gap between your teeth and allow water to stream through.

Compatible Models

There are two different variations of the Classic Jet Tip.

Jet Tip (JT-100E)

Fits the following Waterpik models: WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900.

Jet Tip (JT-70E)

Fits the following Waterpik models: WP-60, WP-65, WP-72

Plaque Seeker Tip

318YGHPF7aL. SL500

The Plaque seeker tip is the same as a Jet Tip except that around the nozzle are three tufts of stiff bristles.

Plaque seeker tips are particularly effective at removing that stubborn strip of plaque from along your gumline. But where it really excels is cleaning dental restorations.

Bridges, implants, crowns and veneers often create gaps in the mouth where plaque accumulates. If it is not removed daily the plaque can build up to the point where it will turn into tartar, leading to further dental problems.

That’s where the Plaque Seeker tip comes in. The bristles are stiff so they do not loose their shape even when reaching trouble spots right at the back of the mouth. As the bristles loosen stubborn plaque, the stream of water shooting out of the center hole washes it away.

Many people even use the Plaque seeker to clean around their braces. We found this interesting considering Waterpik has actually released a tip specifically designed to clean around brace brackets (the Orthodontic Tip, below).

How to use your Plaque Seeker Tip

For general use, place tip close to where your gums meet your teeth. The bristles should touch the teeth just above the gum line.

Turn your Waterpik on and slowly trace the bristles along your gumline. Pause each time you reach each gap between your teeth and allow the water to briefly flow through before moving on.

To clean more specific dental work like implants, crowns, bridges and other restorations simply focus on that specific area. Ensure you use the bristles to sweep out any crevices and other areas where plaque accumulates.

Compatible models

The Plaque Seeker tip (PS-100E) is recommend for use with the following models:

WF-03, WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-440, WP-450, WP-462, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900

Pik Pocket Tip

31KAdaAU6+L. SL500

Pik Pocket tips have been designed to irrigate periodontal pockets, furcations and any other gap that is left between the gum and your teeth.

When it comes to using the Pik Pocket tip, gentle is the name of the game. This is not a high pressure flosser tip. It is designed to gently flush out or deliver medicated rinses directly to a gaps below the gumline.

According to Waterpik:

[Pik Pocket tips have been] clinically proven to access 90% of a 6mm pocket.

The design reflects the focus on gentler water delivery. The wider stem and gentle bend of the flosser head helps reduce the force that water flows from the nozel.

Pik Pocket tips have the finest nozzle out of all the flosser tips. The nozzle is made of rubber and can even bend and flex if you apply pressure. The fin rubber tip and small size makes allows you to be incredibly precise, delivering water to even the smallest of pockets.

How to use your Pik Pocket Tip

Before you use your new Pik Pocket tip you will need to set your Waterpik unit to the lowest pressure setting.

Next, place the soft rubber tip against your tooth at a 45-degree angle and gentley slide the tip below the gum line, into the pocket (or as close to it as you can get).

Turn the unit on and flush out the pocket. If you wish to flush out your whole gumline, simply angle the tip as you did before and trace along your gumline, adjusting the rubber tip as needed.

Compatible models

There are two different variations of the Pik Pocket tip.

Pik Pocket (PP-100E)

Fits the following Waterpik models: WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900.

Pik Pocket (PP-70E)

Fits the following Waterpik models: WP-60, WP-65, WP-72

Note: Due to a lack of low pressure options, it is not recommended that you use Pik Pocket tips on cordless Waterpik models.

Orthodontic Tip

413CaWRQBfL. SL500

As the name suggests, this tip is designed to be used for orthodontic appliances and dental braces.

The brackets and wires of braces can be very difficult to clean around. Regular toothbrushes not only wear out quickly but also fail to remove food that sits right up against the bracket.

The Orthodontic Tip features a cluster of tapered bristles that are small enough to navigate the metal jungle that is your braces. A stream of water shoots through the bristles helping to flush out bacteria and food debris where the metal meets your tooth.

While the Orthodontic tip was primarily designed with braces in mind, you can also use it for general use. The tightly packed bristles are particularly effective at scrubbing plaque to loosen it before being washed away by the flowing water.

How to use your Orthodontic Tip

Place the Orthodontic Tip right where your gum meets your tooth. Gently glide the tip along your gumline, pausing between each tooth so that the water jet can remove any food stuck in the gap.

Now it is time to focus on your braces, one tooth at a time. Clean right under the wire and around the outside of individual bracket.

Before flossing be sure to look closely in the mirror to see the surface of your tooth that your regular toothbrush is missing. Focus on these with the Orthodontic Tip in addition to the braces and gumline.

Compatible Models

The Toothbrush Tip (OD-100E) is recommend for use with the following models:

WF-03, WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-440, WP-450, WP-462, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900

Toothbrush Tip

31OFDW0vk3L. SL500

If a Waterpik flosser tip and a toothbrush had a baby this would be the result. The brush head is roughly the same size as that you would find on an Oral-B electric toothbrush.

The Toothbrush Tip has been designed to replace your regular toothbrush and allows you to brush your teeth and floss at the same time.

If you look closely at the brush head you will notice two rings of bristles surround a small hole. It’s out this hole that water flows, just like a regular flosser tip.

Thanks to the steady stream of water washing away loose plaque, the toothbrush head can be used with or without toothpaste.

In our testing we found that toothpaste did not last as long on the Toothbrush Tip as it did on a regular toothbrush. This is largely because the constant stream of water keeps washing the toothbrush foam away.

We would also like to add that many Waterpik models do not hold enough water to last a full two minutes (the amount of time dentists recommend you brush your teeth for). If you want to want to achieve the full two minutes, you may have to refill the reservoir half way through.

We understand that the appeal of flossing and brushing your teeth in one sitting may be too good to pass up. However we achieved the best results when we used the Toothbrush Tip in addition brushing with our regular toothbrush.

How to use your Toothbrush Tip

Place the Toothbrush Tip in your mouth. The entire brush head should make contact with the surface of your tooth.

Turn your Waterpik on so that water flows through the tip. Using short strokes, gently move the brush back and forth over the surface of your teeth. Just like you would with a regular toothbrush.

Pause when you come to the gap between each tooth. Allow the water to stream through the nozzle and flush out any plaque from between the teeth before moving on to the next tooth.

The trick to brushing with the Toothbrush tip is light pressure. The bristles should not bend. If the bristles bend you are pressing too hard. Pressing too hard can not only damage your teeth but obstruct the flow of water through the nozzle.

Compatible Models

The Toothbrush Tip (TB-100E) is recommend for use with the following models:

WF-03, WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-440, WP-450, WP-462, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900

Tongue Cleaner Tip

31P+dv61ECL. SL500

At first glance the Tongue Cleaner seems impressive. The combination of scraping and flushing should remove more bacteria and sulfur compounds that hide on your tongue.

It is these nasties that are commonly responsible for bad breath and scraping them away can lead to an immediate and noticeable improvement. That’s where Waterpik’s Tong Cleaner comes in.

Waterpik even goes so far to claim that daily use can help prevent halitosis (chronic bad breath).

We are somewhat dubious as to the effectiveness of the tongue cleaner. Unlike other tips, Waterpik does not include the Tongue Cleaner in the box of any water flosser.

The tip definitely does help clean your tongue. We noticed that the a simply scraping session with the tongue cleaner did help freshen breath. But we are not entirely convinced it does a better job than a soft bristled toothbrush and rinsing to justify the effort.

How to use your Tongue Cleaner Tip

Before using the tongue cleaner, adjust the water pressure on your Waterpik to the lowest setting.

Place the Tongue Cleaner Tip about half way down your tongue. Turn the Waterpik on and pull forward with light pressure. Return the tip to the starting position and repeat until you have scraped along your entire tongue.

Once you have perfected the technique you can adjust how hard you press down as you see fit.

Note: Do not place the tongue cleaner too far back on your tongue. Doing so may trigger your gag reflex.

Compatible Models

There are two different variations of the Tongue Cleaner Tip.

Tongue Cleaner (TC-100E)

Fits the following Waterpik models: WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900.

Tongue Cleaner Tip (TC-70E)

Fits the following Waterpik models: WP-60, WP-65, WP-72

Classic High-Pressure Tip

31aVeMqd8JL. SL500

At first glance the Classic High Pressure Tip looks near identical to the Classic Jet tip. Don’t let the similar looks fool you. This tip is capable of producing a much more powerful flossing stream.

The highest pressure setting on cordless Waterpik models is 75 PSI. To help create a stronger stream of water, Waterpik have created a high pressure flosser tip.

An ever so slightly larger intake hole allows more water to flow into the flosser tip. A smaller nozzle hole forces the water out at a higher pressure. And just like that you have a stronger jet of water.

We noticed a big difference in power when using the High Pressure Tip straight after standard Jet Tip. While it won’t make your cordless model as powerful a countertop Waterpik, it’s definitely an improvement.

How to use your Classic High Pressure Tip

Sit the Classic High Pressure Tip at your gum line (not touching). Aim the tip straight on so that it forms a 90 degree angle with your teeth.

Turn the water flosser on and trace along your along your gum line. Pause briefly when you come to the gap between your teeth and allow water to stream through.

Compatible Models

The Classic High Pressure Tip (JT-360E) is recommend for use with the following Waterpik models:

WF-03, WP-360, WP-440, WP-450, WP-462

While the Classic High Pressure Tip was designed for cordless models it will also neatly slot into the following countertop models.

WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900.

Classic Low Pressure Tip

The lowest pressure setting on cordless Waterpik models is 45 PSI. Many people with sensitive gums experience discomfort at this pressure. To help alleviate the problem, Waterpik has created a flosser tip that can help reduce the water pressure even further.

The Classic Low Pressure Tip helps reduce the pressure by allowing less water to flow through it. At the connection point of you will notice a small fitting that restricts water intake. The result is a gentler stream of water flowing out the nozzle.

We were pleasantly surprised by the difference the Classic Low Pressure Tip made. If you have sensitive gums and find that the cordless Waterpik models are just too harsh we recommend you check these tips out.

How to use your Classic Low Pressure Tip

Sit the Classic Low Pressure Tip at your gum line (not touching). Aim the tip straight on so that it forms a 90 degree angle with your teeth.

Turn the water flosser on and trace along your along your gum line. Pause briefly when you come to the gap between your teeth and allow water to stream through.

Compatible Models

The Classic Low Pressure Tip (JT-360E) is recommend for use with the following Waterpik models:

WF-03, WP-360, WP-440, WP-450, WP-462

While the Classic Low Pressure Tip was designed for cordless models it will also neatly slot into the following countertop models:

WP-100, WP-112, WP-260, WP-300, WP-480, WP-660, WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676, WP-861W, WP-862W, WP-900.

Where can you buy Waterpik flosser tips?

While many big name retailers carry the range of Waterpik water flossers, they often won’t carry any replacement tips (looking at you Best Buy). We found that the best place to buy replacement tips for your Waterpik was on Amazon, who stock the full range.

unopened packets of waterpik replacement flosser tips

Waterpik Replacement tips are always sold in packs of two. Depending on the type of flosser tips you choose a single refill pack can last you from 6 months to a year.

How Often should you replace Waterpik flosser tips?

Over time your Flosser Tip will begin to wear, become grimey and unhygienic or just not work as well as it used to. When this happens you will need to buy a replacement flosser tip.

Just like a toothbrush, flosser tips need to be replaced. How often entirely depends on which Flosser Tip you use:

– Classic Jet Tip – 6 months
– Plaque Seeker Tip – 3 months
– Pik Pocket Tip – 3 months
– Orthodontic Tip – 3 months
– Toothbrush Tip – 3 months
– Tongue Cleaner Tip – 6 months
– Classic High Pressure Tip – 6 months
– Classic Low Pressure Tip – 6 months

These are estimated replacement times and your milage may vary according to factors such as usage and pressure settings.
How do you store your Waterpik Flosser Tips?

While some Waterpik models come with built-in flosser tip holders, others do not offer such a luxury. We recommend sealing unused flosser tips in an air-tight container to keep them clean and hygienic.

But for those of you who want something purpose-made, Waterpik also makes a travel case capable of holding up to 6 flosser tips:

But perhaps the best part is that the case comes with 6 flosser tips inside:
– 2 x Classic Jet Pik
– 2 x Orthodontic Tips
– 2 x Plaque Seeker Tips

But it gets better. The cost of the case is much cheaper than buying the 6 flosser tips separately. It’s a serious bargain, check it out here.

If you find yourself routinely buying these three tips then it is worth buying the kit and throwing out the storage case. It might seem wasteful but it will save you money.

And that brings us to the end of our guide. Which flosser tip is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below!
