Product Features & Technical Details

The DW5080 has dimensions of 11 inches by five inches by six inches. It weighs just 3.4 pounds. There’s a 10-ounce water tank and it can produce a steam burst of 100 grams per minute thanks to its 1700-watts of power.

Its top features are the following:

High Quality Soleplate. It has a ‘Microsteam’ stainless steel soleplate with 400 holes. The soleplate is highly polished to glide across all clothing and the large number of steam holes promotes an even distribution of steam.

Anti-Calcium System. The DW5080 has a valve that prevents accumulation of calcium and impurities. This promotes a longer lifespan.

Self-Cleaning System. Whenever loose mineral deposits collect inside the equipment, the iron flushes it out automatically for better performance.

Anti-Drip Feature. The feature avoids leaks and spits during low temperature mode.

Auto Shut-Off. Even if you forgot turning off the micro steam iron, it will turn off by itself in three ways. It will shut down after 30 seconds when tipped over, 30 seconds when horizontally positioned, and eight minutes when left vertically.

Performance

This is a near-perfect product – in terms of features and performance it is truly outstanding. The 1700 watts of power produces great steam quickly, the large water tank means you don’t have to stop to refill every few minutes, and it’s all done with German precision – unlike their cheaper options, this Rowenta is made in Germany.

So… great steam, great ironing experience… what’s the catch?

The catch for some customers (it didn’t happen to us yet) is that after a while it starts to leak. We’re talking about a tiny percentage of people here, and maybe they didn’t take care of their irons very well. But it’s weird and disappointing nonetheless.

Pros

  • Big water tank
  • Lots of steam holes
  • Extra-long cord
  • Heats up quickly
  • Sturdy construction

Cons

  • Reports of leakage despite correct use

Who Should Buy It

If you’ve done some research into steam irons and know what to look for, then you’ll see that the DW5080 ticks ALL the boxes.

Conclusion and Recommendation

We have no hesitation in recommending this superb iron. It’s high-quality, built to exacting standards by fastidious experts in a country run by engineers.

The only question is – can you afford it? If not, take a look further down the price range at the Black+Decker D2030 or the Sunbeam Steam Master.

If you can splash the cash, this will radically improve your ironing experience and you’ll never look at a cheap iron ever again!
